My Philosophy of Art

Picasso said, “The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls.” I believe art lifts us beyond the mundane of everyday life to visions of our true potential—as spiritual beings having a temporary human experience.

As I visit the beauty of nature in our natural environment, I am constantly confronted with something that is much grander than the present moment, something that lifts and expands my  consciousness. As I hold a brush and make colors appear on the canvas or play the music of the great composers, I touch the hands of the masters—those that know and understand the grandeur of our surroundings.

It centers me. I don’t get side-tracked into seeming conflicts—I simply see the majesty around me and humbly reflect it back to you in my arts. Enjoy the paintings as a greeting from my soul!

Dorothea Hover-Kramer is a psychotherapist who has been in private practice for over 25 years. She has taught many clients to connect with their "inner artist.” Since moving to Cave Junction, Oregon 5 years ago, she has activated this creative resource and taught herself to paint landscapes of her surroundings in acrylics. She delights in the use of color to reflect the vibrancy of her environment.  She is also interested in raising  consciousness  about environmental issues and heads the local arts council.
